How to make Twitter account private?

Making your Twitter account private, also known as making your tweets protected, means that your posts will only be visible to people who follow you. In addition, whenever new people would want to follow your private account, you'll need to manually approve or reject their request, giving you greater control over your data.

The process of privating your account is a little different depending on your chosen platform. Here's how it works:

Make a Twitter account private on the web version

  1. Go to Twitter on your browser;
  2. On the left side menu, choose More, then navigate to Settings and privacy;
  3. Inside, you will find the Audience and tagging option. Click it;
  4. Once there, simply tick the Protect your Tweets checkbox.

Make a Twitter account private on Android app

  1. Open Twitter app;
  2. Depending on your device, you will either see a three-line icon, a cogwheel, or your profile icon. Tap on whichever one you see;
  3. Navigate to Privacy and safety submenu. There, find Audience and tagging option;
  4. Tick the Protect your Tweets checkbox.
